Shed Party Ideas to Try for Your Next Get-Together
There are a few changes you can make to turn your shed or garden room into something that brings your garden party to life.
Give the shed a job for the night
By this, we mean deciding what function your party shed serves during the event. Will it be the drinks area where guests can help themselves? A quiet corner to escape the noise? Maybe a place to store food, music gear, or party supplies so the garden stays tidy?
Once you know its role, everything else falls into place, from the lighting to seating and layout.
Set up the mood inside

With the role you gave your shed, the next step is to set it up to match.
For instance, if you want to make it a bar shed, use a small table, crate stack, or shelf against a wall to create a solid surface for the bottles and glasses. Keep a tray for cups, a bucket with ice nearby, and a small basket for napkins or bottle openers. Anyone who wants a drink can line up and serve themselves at their convenience.
For a chill-out spot, create a small seating area near the door or a window. This will allow your guest to sit inside while still seeing the garden and the party. Pair their seat with cushions, plus a rug on the floor for that homelike touch. Voila, they can take a break without missing what’s happening outside.
Lighting is also important, especially when it starts to get dark. Some battery lights can do the trick – some even offer colour changing.

Turn it into a game or activity spot

This is another fun idea while the party is in full swing outside, perfect for both kids and adults. You could set up a dartboard on the wall and a tabletop for cards or board games. Or a mini table tennis setup if the space allows.
Jenga, Connect 4, or a stack of puzzles can bring some extra challenge, too. This gives guests a reason to step inside and have a little friendly competition.
If you don’t have a theme, use the shed for whatever people feel like playing. It’s low-effort and keeps the space lively without needing much planning.
Queue a playlist
Turn the shed into your own mini DJ booth and take charge of the tunes. Set up a laptop or phone on a small table and let guests send over song requests.
Keep a couple of Bluetooth speakers in the garden to spread the sound. Just don’t crank it too high or keep it going too late. You want neighbours tapping along, not dialling the dance police!
Note: If your shed doesn’t have electricity apart from the lights, an extension cable from the main house will do (as a short term solution only). Ensure it’s tucked out of the way, though.
Create a DIY photobooth
This one is pretty straightforward, especially if you already have the camera gear. Set up a wall or corner of the shed with a backdrop or a plain sheet. And don’t forget the props! Keep a basket nearby for a variety of hats, signs, or silly costume pieces.
The camera doesn’t have to be professional. A simple SLR, tablet, or an instant film camera on a small table always works! Guests can pop in between garden activities, take a few quick shots, and step back out.
Tips: Leave the shed door open so it doesn’t feel stuffy, and bring in some extra light if you need, like a ring light.
Silent disco corner
A totally different vibe and adds a bit of unexpected fun to the party, if you ask us! Guests can grab a pair of headphones and choose their own music – make sure you have enough for whoever wants to join.
And, of course, hang a small disco ball or some coloured lights to give the space some energy. If it fits, set up a small platform or wooden deck where people can dance.
Round-up
There are various ways to use your shed for your garden party, and this list is sure to bring the fun. You can never go wrong with a bar shed, and a playlist is always a must. To make it more memorable, add a shed photobooth or a silent disco corner.
But don’t limit yourself, and go beyond if you like; after all, it’s your party. We hope these shed party ideas give you the first push to make it happen. Good luck!
